From our pharmacy team

Pharmacy Firstis an exciting new initiative that will allow patients to be treated for 7 specific conditions or get an urgent repeat medication supply via their local pharmacy. The 7 minor ailments are namely; Acute otitis media, impetigo, infected insect bites, shingles, sinusitis, sore throat and uncomplicated urinary tract infections. Patients can access this service either by referral from their GP surgery, urgent and emergency care settings or NHS 111 (online or telephone).

Patients can also contact their pharmacy directly. Patients should speak to the surgery who will refer them on to the nearest pharmacy who can provide  additional services. Pharmacist will work within strict guidelines and will follow defined clinical pathways. Patients are familiar with using their local pharmacy for help with treating minor ailments but the difference here is that the pharmacy can provide prescription only medication under the Pharmacy First Scheme.

Diabetes prevention programme summary from Nicolette

The initial aim for the series of sessions was to understand diabetes and the role of lifestyle changes related to nutrition, movement, sleep and stress management. The programme highlighted several unique benefits essential for managing and supporting individuals with diabetes; including peer support and shared experiences, education and empowerment, improved adherence, accountability and notable improvement.

The cohort of attendees have shown promising results, demonstrating the effectiveness of group clinics in managing and supporting people with diabetes. We look forward to continuing this journey with future patients and further enhancing diabetes care within the community.
